Monitoring air-sea carbon interactions is critical for integration of ocean data into global policy. Accurate monitoring requires high-quality, continuous measurements to observe and predict a variety of impacts on the marine environment and human wellbeing. The increased level of demand being placed on the surface carbon observing community has led to transforming a loose affiliation of observing platforms into a formal network within GOOS capable of integrating global activities and providing high quality measurements needed. A uniquely designed and distributed Surface Ocean CO₂ Observing Network (SOCONET) will deliver critical information to UNFCCC assessments, Global Greenhouse Gas Watch, State of the Climate Report and other management and policy making bodies and processes.
The SOCONET’s Town Hall at the Ocean Sciences Meeting, which will take place on 23 February 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland, will be a forum for community feedback on the network and to present progress on data, and short-term plans, moderated by TRICUSO colleague Maciej Telszewski.
This interactive Town Hall aims to bring together current and prospective contributors to SOCONET, as well as data users and stakeholders to:
