Research Director
WP3, WP5 | Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ)
While being interested in many aspects of the ocean in the Earth system, Peter’s own research focuses on ocean biogeochemistry and the marine carbon cycle. His expertise ranges from CO2 measurements through big data modelling using artificial neural networks; he is particularly interested in natural and man-made changes in the air-sea CO2 exchange on climate relevant temporal, and from local to global spatial scales. Currently, Peter is the Director of the Research Department at the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ), where he also leads the Coastal Climate Change division and his own research group (Past, Present and Future Climate Change). Additionally, his group works in close interaction with the VLIZ ICOS team. Peter’s main task for TRICUSO lies in defining optimal observing networks and sampling strategies in the Southern Ocean.
