Pablo Trucco-Pignata

Research Scientist, Autonomous Sensor Development, Ocean Biogeochemistry

WP2, WP4 | NOC

Pablo Trucco-Pignata is a research scientist at the NOC, with over 15 years of experience in ocean biogeochemistry. His work focuses on carbonate chemistry, oxygen dynamics, and the development of autonomous sensors such as Lab-on-a-Chip (LoC) systems for use on floats, gliders, and moorings. He has contributed to projects including GEORGE, CHALKY, EPOC and SEAO2-CDR, and he works on MRV strategies for marine carbon dioxide removal. During the CUSTARD project, he studied oxygen budgets and carbon cycling in the Southern Ocean. His research supports improved observations of CO2 fluxes and ocean change. For TRICUSO he will contribute to the development and miniaturisation of Lab-on-a-Chip sensors for total alkalinity (TA), and dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), with a focus on adapting these technologies for profiling float deployments. This includes redesigning sensor platforms to reduce size, power, and reagent consumption for long-term, high-quality carbonate system measurements. He will also be co-leading fieldwork coordination in WP4 as an early-career researcher, supporting planning and execution of Southern Ocean deployments. This includes intercomparison campaigns and integration of LoC sensors across autonomous platforms.
